How It Works

1

Paste the Facebook link

Videos, Reels, Watch links, fb.watch short links, and Live replays all work, as long as the post is public.

2

Get the transcript

Scrivi reads the caption track when there is one. Videos without captions are transcribed from the audio on paid plans.

3

Click Summarize

The AI summary lists an overview, key points, chapters, topics, and action items when the video contains advice.

How to summarize a Facebook video

Copy the video's link from your browser or from the Share menu in the Facebook app. Paste it into Scrivi and click Transcribe. Scrivi locates the video, gets the spoken content as text, and shows the full transcript. Click Summarize, and the AI reads the whole transcript and writes the summary.

That covers the questions people usually ask an assistant about Facebook video: "is there an AI that can summarize a Facebook video?" and "can I get a transcript and an analysis from a Facebook video URL?" Yes, from the link alone, without downloading the video or logging in to Facebook.

What the summary gives you

Every summary uses the same structure, which makes a 45-minute Live replay as easy to skim as a 30-second Reel.

  • Overview: 4 to 6 sentences on what the video is about.
  • Key points: 6 to 10 takeaways you can paste into notes or a report.
  • Chapters: 5 to 10 sections with a title and short description.
  • Topics: 4 to 8 themes for tagging and sorting.
  • Action items: 3 to 6 next steps, only when the video actually gives advice.

Captions first, audio when needed

Facebook videos come in two kinds. Some carry a caption track, auto-generated by Facebook or added by the page. For those, the transcript arrives in seconds, and both the transcript and the summary work on the free plan: 20 caption transcriptions and 3 AI summaries a day, no credit card.

Many Facebook videos have no captions, though. Reels, quick phone uploads, and Live replays without captioning switched on are common examples. For those, Scrivi transcribes the audio with speech-to-text, which handles videos up to 3 hours. Audio transcription is part of the $2.99 Day Pass (24 hours of Pro) and the Pro plan. Scrivi tells you up front when a video needs that path, so you don't end up with an empty result.

Be prepared for the paid path on Facebook more often than on YouTube. If you summarize Facebook videos regularly, the Day Pass is the cheapest way to test it on a real workload before you decide on Pro.

Which Facebook links work

Scrivi reads the public video page. Anything you can watch without logging in to Facebook works.

  • Page and profile videos: facebook.com/<page>/videos/<id>.
  • Watch links: facebook.com/watch/?v=<id>.
  • Reels: facebook.com/reel/<id>.
  • Short links and share links: fb.watch/<code> and share links from the app.
  • Live replays, once the replay is published and public.
  • Not supported: private groups, friends-only posts, restricted audiences, Stories, and YouTube videos embedded in a post (paste the YouTube link instead).

Common uses for Facebook video summaries

Facebook is where a lot of local and community video lives. These are the jobs people bring most often.

  • Council meetings, local news, and community briefings streamed as Live: read the decisions and action items instead of the full stream.
  • Webinars, church services, and workshops posted to a page: get notes and chapters you can share.
  • Product demos and Marketplace videos: capture the specifications that were said aloud.
  • Creators and marketers: see what a successful Reel actually says and how it is structured.
  • Research and analysis: summarize many public videos on one topic, then compare them in a research report.

Beyond the summary

Paid plans (Day Pass, Pro, Lifetime) add Ask AI for your own questions about the video, such as "what dates were mentioned?" or "what did the speaker say about the budget?". They also add batch transcription of up to 10 links at once, collections to keep related videos together, research reports that combine 2 to 5 transcripts into one document with themes and insights, and export as PDF, .txt, or .md.

On the free plan you can read the full transcript and the summary in your dashboard and copy any part of the text.

From a long Live replay to a short brief

Facebook Live replays are often long and loosely structured: a welcome, a few minutes of waiting for viewers, the actual content, then questions from the comments. The summary cuts through that. The chapters show where the substance starts and ends, the key points list what was actually said, and the action items collect any deadlines, dates, or next steps that were announced.

A simple workflow for a recurring stream, such as a weekly council meeting or a team update posted to a page: paste the replay link after each session, read the overview and the action items, and keep the transcripts in one collection. When you need to know when something was first mentioned, search across all of them instead of rewatching weeks of video.

For analysis work across many public videos, such as tracking how a topic is discussed by several pages, the research report is the step after the summary. It reads 2 to 5 transcripts together and returns the shared themes, the points where sources agree, and where they differ.

Language and privacy

The transcript stays in the language spoken in the video. The summary language is your choice: pick one of 16 languages in Settings, or keep the system default. Saved transcripts and summaries are private to your account and can be deleted at any time.

Features

Structured, not a blurb

Every summary has an overview, key points, chapters with short descriptions, and topics, so you can skim a long Live in a minute.

Grounded in the transcript

The summary is written from what was actually said in the video, not from the post text or the title.

Ask follow-up questions

On paid plans, Ask AI answers specific questions about the video, such as what was said about a date or a price.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an AI that can summarize a Facebook video?
Yes. Paste the public video link into Scrivi, click Transcribe, then Summarize. You get an overview, key points, chapters, topics, and action items when the video gives advice. A free account includes 3 summaries a day.
Can I summarize Facebook Reels?
Yes, if the Reel is public. Paste the facebook.com/reel/ link. Many Reels have no caption track, so they often need audio transcription, which is part of the $2.99 Day Pass and the Pro plan.
Can I summarize a Facebook Live replay?
Yes, once the replay is published and public. If the page turned on captions, it works on the free plan. Otherwise Scrivi transcribes the audio on a paid plan, for replays up to 3 hours.
Why does my Facebook video need a Day Pass or Pro?
The free plan reads existing captions only. When a Facebook video has no caption track, Scrivi has to transcribe the audio, which costs real processing time. That is why audio transcription is part of the paid plans. Captioned videos stay free.
Can I ask questions about a Facebook video?
Yes, on paid plans (Day Pass, Pro, Lifetime). Ask AI answers your own questions from the transcript, for example which dates, names, or numbers were mentioned, so you can check the answer against the original text.
Do I need a Facebook account?
No. Scrivi reads public video data from the link. You only need a free Scrivi account to save transcripts and generate summaries.
Can I export the summary?
On paid plans you can export the transcript and the summary as PDF, .txt, or .md. On the free plan you can read and copy the text.
Is Scrivi affiliated with Facebook or Meta?
No. Scrivi is an independent tool with no connection to Meta. It reads publicly available video data from the links you paste.
