How It Works

1

Copy the TikTok Link

Tap Share, then Copy Link. Both full URLs and short vm.tiktok.com links work.

2

Paste It Into Scrivi

Scrivi pulls the spoken content from the video and returns it as clean text, typically in a few seconds.

3

Save, Summarize, Export

Keep it in your dashboard, generate an AI summary, or export a PDF for research and reference.

Why you would want a TikTok as text

TikToks are short, fast, and dense. A 40-second clip can hold a full recipe, a study tip, a product comparison, or a three-part argument, delivered at talking speed with no pause button worth using. Reading the same content takes a fraction of the time and lets you skip straight to the line you need.

Text also survives. Videos get deleted, accounts go private, and the app's saved folder becomes a graveyard. A transcript in your own library stays searchable and quotable no matter what happens to the original.

What you can do with the words

Creators use TikTok transcripts to study what works. Paste twenty clips from a fast-growing account and read the first line of each: that is a hook study you can finish over coffee. The same text becomes a script template, a caption draft, or a thread for another platform.

Students and learners save TikToks from teachers, language creators, and explainers. As text, those clips become notes you can search and revise from, not a scroll you have to redo.

Researchers, journalists, and social listening teams need exact wording. A transcript makes a TikTok citable and lets you compare how a topic is framed across dozens of accounts without watching them one by one.

  • Hook and structure research across many clips
  • Study notes from educational TikToks
  • Exact quotes for articles and reports
  • Repurposing a TikTok script into a post, email, or blog section

Captions versus speech-to-text on Scrivi

Many TikToks with spoken content carry an auto-generated caption track, because the app creates one when the creator turns captions on. When that track exists, Scrivi reads it directly and shows the transcript within a couple of seconds. This is the free path: 20 caption transcriptions and 3 AI summaries per day, with no credit card.

When a TikTok has no caption track, or the creator burned text into the video instead, Scrivi uses AI audio transcription. It listens to the clip and writes the transcript in the language that was spoken. Because it costs real processing, this path is part of the paid tier: the $2.99 Day Pass unlocks it for 24 hours, and Pro at $9.99 a month includes it. Scrivi says which path a video needs before anything is charged.

Tips for better TikTok transcripts

Copy the link from the Share sheet inside TikTok, or from the browser address bar on tiktok.com. Full links and short vm.tiktok.com links both work. Profile links do not point at one video and will not transcribe.

For the audio path, results follow the recording. A creator speaking clearly over a low music bed transcribes well; a voice fighting a loud trending sound will lose words. Slideshows with music only have no speech to transcribe, and Scrivi will tell you instead of inventing text.

  • Use the video link, not the profile link
  • Double-check names, brands, and slang, which speech models miss most
  • Save related clips to one collection so you can compare them later

How Scrivi compares with free TikTok transcript tools

If you need one TikTok as text, once, a free widget with no account is the simplest route. Choppity runs a free TikTok transcript tool with no signup and returns most clips in under a minute. DownSub downloads existing subtitle files, which is fast and free but useless for clips without captions. GetTranscribe covers TikTok plus every other major platform, though the free tier is two videos in total before a $9.99 monthly plan.

Scrivi is for the second clip and the two-hundredth. Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, and Facebook links go in the same box, every transcript is saved and searchable, summaries pull out key points and chapters, and research reports combine several transcripts into one analysis. You trade an anonymous widget for a free account, and get a workflow in return.

Privacy and limits

Scrivi only reads public TikToks. It does not log in to TikTok, never asks for your TikTok password, and cannot access private accounts or friends-only videos. Your transcripts are private to your account and can be deleted at any time.

Free: 20 caption transcriptions and 3 AI summaries a day. Day Pass: $2.99 for 24 hours of full access including audio transcription. Pro: $9.99 a month for unlimited use within fair use, Ask AI, batch transcription of up to 10 links, collections, and research reports. Lifetime: $79.99 once.

Features

Built for Short Video

TikToks are short and fast-talking, which is exactly where reading beats rewatching. Get the whole script at a glance instead of scrubbing back.

No App, No Download

Everything runs from the link in your browser. Nothing to install, no TikTok login required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get the text of a TikTok video?
Tap Share on the TikTok, choose Copy Link, paste it into Scrivi, and press Transcribe. Clips with a caption track return text in seconds. Clips without one are transcribed from the audio on a Day Pass or Pro plan.
Is there a free TikTok to text tool?
Yes. A free Scrivi account includes 20 caption transcriptions a day and 3 AI summaries, no credit card required. TikToks that have no caption track need audio transcription, which comes with the $2.99 Day Pass and the Pro plan.
Does it work if the TikTok has no captions?
Yes, with a Day Pass or Pro plan. Scrivi transcribes the audio with speech-to-text and keeps the spoken language. Videos that contain only music and no speech are reported as having nothing to transcribe.
Can I transcribe TikToks in languages other than English?
Yes. Caption tracks are shown as written, and audio transcription returns the language that was spoken rather than a translation. The Scrivi interface is available in 16 languages.
Can I transcribe a private TikTok?
No. Scrivi only reads publicly viewable videos. Private accounts, friends-only clips, and drafts are not accessible, and Scrivi never signs in to TikTok on your behalf.
Can I export the TikTok text?
Yes. Copy the transcript with one click, or export it as PDF, plain text, or Markdown. AI summaries export separately, which is useful when you only want to share the takeaways.
Can I convert several TikToks at once?
Pro users can paste up to 10 links in a single batch. Group the results in a collection and generate a research report that pulls themes across all of them, which is the quickest way to study a trend or a creator.
