How It Works

1

Copy the TikTok link

Tap Share, then Copy Link. Full URLs and vm.tiktok.com short links both work.

2

Get the transcript

Scrivi reads the caption track when there is one. TikToks without captions are transcribed from the audio on paid plans.

3

Summarize it

Click Summarize for an overview, key points, topics, and action items when the TikTok gives advice.

How to summarize a TikTok video

In the TikTok app, tap Share and then Copy Link. In the browser, copy the address bar. Paste the link into Scrivi and click Transcribe. Both full tiktok.com URLs and short vm.tiktok.com or /t/ links work. Scrivi gets the spoken words as text, then Summarize turns the transcript into a structured summary.

You don't need a TikTok account, the app, or a download. Scrivi works from the public link. You do need a free Scrivi account for summaries, which takes about a minute and needs no credit card. Every transcript and summary is saved to your dashboard, so the clips you research stay searchable after they drop out of your feed.

What a TikTok summary looks like

TikToks are short, but they are dense: a fast-talking creator can pack a full tutorial, a product review, or a recipe into 90 seconds. The summary pulls that apart into pieces you can scan.

  • Overview: 4 to 6 sentences on what the clip says.
  • Key points: 6 to 10 takeaways, such as the steps of a tip or the claims of a review.
  • Chapters: the sections of the video, which helps with longer TikToks and Lives.
  • Topics: 4 to 8 themes, handy for sorting research.
  • Action items: 3 to 6 next steps, only when the creator gives actual advice.

Captions, audio, and the free plan

Some TikToks carry a caption track, either auto-generated or added by the creator. For those, the transcript arrives in seconds and the free plan covers it: 20 caption transcriptions and 3 AI summaries a day.

Many TikToks have no caption track, especially clips with music, voiceovers added in an editor, or older uploads. For those, Scrivi transcribes the audio with speech-to-text. That is part of the $2.99 Day Pass (24 hours of Pro) and the Pro plan, because processing audio costs money per minute. Scrivi tells you up front when a clip needs that path.

Clips with only music and no speech have nothing to transcribe. The text on screen in a TikTok is not read either; Scrivi works with what is spoken.

Summarizing many TikToks for research

One TikTok rarely tells the whole story. Trend research, competitor analysis, and creator studies usually mean dozens of clips on one subject. Scrivi is built for that workflow on the paid plans.

  • Batch: paste up to 10 TikTok links at once, and mix in Reels, Shorts, X, or Facebook videos if you like.
  • Collections: keep all clips for one topic, campaign, or creator together.
  • Research reports: combine 2 to 5 transcripts into one document with shared themes, agreements, and differences.
  • Ask AI: ask questions across a transcript, such as "which products are named?" or "what is the hook in the first sentence?"
  • Export: download transcripts and summaries as PDF, .txt, or .md.

What people use TikTok summaries for

The common thread is getting the words out of a format built for watching.

  • Creators: study what a viral clip actually says, including the hook and the structure, then write your own script.
  • Marketers: track what creators say about a product or a category without watching every clip.
  • Learners: keep the steps of a cooking, fitness, or software tip as notes you can find again.
  • Researchers and journalists: collect and compare public statements on a topic across many accounts.
  • Accessibility: read the content when sound is not an option.

Transcript or summary: which one you need

For a 20-second TikTok, the full transcript is often all you need. It is short enough to read in a few seconds, and you get the creator's exact wording, which matters when you want to quote a line or study a hook word for word. Reading the transcript does not use one of your 3 daily summaries.

The summary earns its place on longer TikToks, multi-part series, and Lives, where a creator talks for several minutes. It also helps when you work through many clips on one subject: the topics and key points make it quick to see which videos actually cover your question and which ones only touch it.

A good rule of thumb: read the transcript when you care about how something was said, and use the summary when you care about what was said. Both come from the same text, so you can switch between them at any time.

A simple workflow for TikTok trend research

Collect the links of the clips you want to study, for example the top videos for a hashtag or a product. On a paid plan, paste up to 10 at once in a batch. Add them to a collection named after the topic. Read the summaries to sort out the clips that matter, then generate a research report from the 2 to 5 strongest ones. The report shows the shared themes, the claims that repeat, and where creators disagree, which is usually the insight you were looking for in the first place.

Playlists, profiles, and other limits

Scrivi summarizes individual videos. A creator profile, a sound page, or a collection link is not a video, so paste the links of the clips you want. Private accounts and videos restricted to followers cannot be read.

The transcript stays in the language that was spoken. The summary language is up to you: pick one of 16 languages in Settings, which is useful when you research creators in other countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I summarize a TikTok video with AI?
Copy the TikTok link, paste it into Scrivi, click Transcribe, then click Summarize. You get an overview, key points, topics, chapters, and action items when the clip gives advice. A free account includes 3 summaries a day.
Do short vm.tiktok.com links work?
Yes. Scrivi accepts full tiktok.com URLs as well as vm.tiktok.com and /t/ short links from the Share menu.
Why does a TikTok need a Day Pass or Pro?
The free plan reads existing captions only. Many TikToks have no caption track, so Scrivi has to transcribe the audio, which is part of the $2.99 Day Pass and the Pro plan. Captioned TikToks stay free.
Can I summarize several TikToks at once?
On paid plans, yes. Batch transcription takes up to 10 links at once. You can then summarize each one, or combine 2 to 5 transcripts into a research report.
Does it read the text shown on screen?
No. Scrivi works with what is spoken in the video, from the caption track or the audio. On-screen text overlays are not part of the transcript.
Can I get the summary in English if the TikTok is in another language?
Yes. The transcript stays in the language that was spoken, and you can set the summary language in Settings to any of 16 languages, including English.
Do I need a TikTok account?
No. Scrivi reads public video data from the link. A free Scrivi account is needed to generate summaries and save your history.
Is Scrivi affiliated with TikTok?
No. Scrivi is an independent tool with no connection to TikTok or ByteDance. It reads publicly available video data from the links you paste.
